Setting up a land line in Belgium
In order to get a land line in Belgium you must make an initial subscription to the national Belgian telephone company, Belgacom. After signing the initial contract with Belgacom, you are free to choose any provider.
You can get a land line in Belgium by filling a form on Belgacom's website , by calling (toll free: 0800 55 800), or at a Belgacom shop. You must be over 18 years old, and provide an ID.
You will have to pay for the connection costs in advance, in cash or by credit card. Connection costs are around €50. You can purchase the handset from the phone provider or buy one at a retail store.
After submitting your application, you will need to wait approximately ten days for the service activation. The provider will send you a letter to inform you the date of the activation, and will call you or send you a text message to confirm that the service has been activated. You can install the line yourself or have it installed by a technician.
Most telephone providers offer telephone, cable TV and internet pack. Flat rates are available, as well as international call packs. Bills are sent every two months and must be paid within 15 days.
