best way to transport stuff to UK

  i want to move to england for a couple of years.. does anyone has any advice on what the best way is to transport my stuff to the UK? By boat or plane? I am from europe, so by boat from france is not that far... however, do not know if that is cheap(er) than flying.... anyone tips?????????
